Jeanne Selander adopted her first dog, Diego, from the Florida Keys SPCA in 2013. She wanted to do something to raise awareness about adopting senior dogs, so she began adopting older dogs and then started getting calls to take the hospice cases that had been diagnosed with chronic medical conditions. She decided to give them their best last days.
Old Man River was surrendered to the Upper Keys Humane Society when his owner passed away. At 19 years old, he was a cranky old man with no hair and very few teeth. River quickly became a local celebrity, helping raise awareness about adopting senior dogs. He was loved by all who met him. River died of lymphoma two months shy of his 21st

In his memory, River‘s Wish ensures that all dogs are loved to the very end.
To provide permanent sanctuary for senior chihuahuas with behavioral or chronic health issues - a loving home for their final days.
